Design Insider Features Faber's Transformation of Salthouse Harbour Hotel
We're delighted to see our work at Salthouse Harbour Hotel, featured by Design Insider, highlighting the creative thinking behind the transformation of the hotel's food and beverage spaces.
The feature explores how the project moved beyond a conventional hotel refurbishment, instead taking inspiration from the owners' long-standing passion for collecting contemporary art. Rather than simply designing a new restaurant and bar, the ambition was to create an experience where art, architecture and hospitality become inseparable.
The redesign centred on repositioning the hotel's food and beverage offer as a destination in its own right. Working closely with Gough Hotels, we reimagined the arrival sequence, introduced a new bar within the former lobby, increased the restaurant's capacity, and developed a new visual identity to unite the experience.
One of the project's defining elements is NaCl, our bespoke sculptural light installation inspired by the molecular structure of salt. Suspended above the dining room, the installation references Suffolk's salt marsh heritage while reinforcing the project's wider concept of treating space itself as a work of art.
Alongside the interiors, we developed a comprehensive brand identity that reflects the hotel's artistic character across every guest touchpoint. The result is an environment that feels cohesive, distinctive and commercially focused—demonstrating how interior design and branding can work together to reposition a hospitality business.

About the Project
Salthouse Harbour Hotel is an independent hotel overlooking Ipswich Harbour. Working with Gough Hotels, Faber and Company delivered the concept development, hospitality interior design, branding and bespoke feature design to transform the hotel's food and beverage spaces into a destination for both guests and the local community.
