Faber and Company’s Hospitality Brand Design for Salthouse Featured by World Brand Design Society
Faber and Company’s hospitality brand design and interior design for Salthouse Harbour Hotel has been featured by World Brand Design Society, exploring the thinking behind a new identity shaped through the lens of art.
The project demonstrates Faber and Company’s integrated approach to hospitality branding, where brand identity, interiors and guest experience are developed together rather than treated as separate disciplines.
Building a hospitality brand from a meaningful idea
For Salthouse Harbour Hotel in Ipswich, Suffolk, the starting point was not its waterfront location, but the owners’ longstanding passion for collecting art.
This became the foundation for a creative concept centred around ‘space as art’ - an idea that informed both the hotel’s visual identity and the design of its food and beverage spaces.
The new hospitality brand identity included a sculptural ‘S’ marque inspired by artistic forms, supported by a wider visual language designed to work across the hotel, bar, brasserie, spa and sauna boat.
Rather than applying branding to a completed interior, the identity developed alongside the physical spaces. Materials, furniture, lighting, artwork, graphics and brand touchpoints could therefore respond to the same central idea, creating a more coherent experience for guests.
Brand identity and interior design working together
This approach extended into the transformation of the hotel’s bar and restaurant.
The former lobby became a new 30-cover destination bar, while the restaurant was reconfigured to create additional covers and strengthen the relationship between the hotel's different food and beverage spaces.
Bespoke design also became part of the brand experience. The NaCl light installation, created specifically for Salthouse, takes inspiration from the molecular structure of salt and forms a sculptural focal point within the restaurant.
Together, these elements allow the Salthouse identity to exist beyond a logo or graphic system. The brand is expressed through the spaces guests move through, the objects they encounter and the overall atmosphere of the hotel.
For Faber and Company, this is central to our approach to brand design for restaurants, hotels and hospitality businesses: finding an idea with enough depth to inform both how a hospitality brand looks and how it feels to experience.
