Sketchbook: Salthouse, Harbour Hotel and

Welcome to Sketchbook - a space where we share the latest ideas and culinary experiences emerging from the Faber studio.

An independent boutique hotel in Suffolk, Salthouse invited Faber to reimagine its ground floor public spaces as part of a wider rebrand of the hotel (also by Faber).

The concept draws from the owners’ long-standing passion for collecting art — from Damien Hirst to emerging local artists. Rather than referencing the local vernacular, we curated an interior that celebrates creativity itself. The hotel has always acted as a canvas; this redesign ensures the interiors contribute to the visual conversation as much as the artwork they hold.

The former lobby has been transformed into a destination bar, freeing up space within the restaurant by relocating the original bar and creating a more deliberate arrival experience.

The restaurant is an orchestration of contrasting colour and pattern, bringing energy and movement to the space. A large-scale, bespoke ceiling artwork anchors the room, supported by a series of commissioned pieces created specifically for the project.

In contrast, the bar is warm and tonal. Conscious of the acoustic challenges of what is partially a glazed pavilion, the space is softened with drapery and a curved internal form. Clay hues dominate, punctuated with subtle notes of green and blue, alongside a considered selection of new artworks.
