A peek inside: The Clean Kilo

Determined to do something about the eight million tonnes of plastic waste that enters our oceans every year, Thomas Pell launched The Clean Kilo: a zero-waste, plastic-free supermarket in Digbeth, Birmingham.

You can get all the essentials here, from fabric detergent and hand soap, to pasta, nuts and fresh bread. All you need is something to carry it in, because none of the items on sale is pre-packaged. And if you forget, you can purchase reusable jars, bottles and bags from their lovely selection in store.

Before The Clean Kilo opened last month, we gave Thomas a few pointers on how to optimise the space and provided a bit of design inspiration too. We love what he and his team have created, making use of reclaimed materials and letting the building’s original features shine through.
