Interior design and branding for a new Artisan Market
The Abbey Artisan Market's understated design lets its fine selection of locally crafted produce take the limelight…
No Ordinary Hospitality was created during the tough lockdown conditions of 2021 and we were honoured to be appointed by the team for several projects—including The Abbey Artisan Market. Part of Coombe Abbey Visitor Centre in Warwickshire, the shop sells a delicious curation of the finest produce from regional suppliers to guests at Coombe Abbey Hotel—as well as day visitors to its popular park grounds.
We needed to create a ‘farm shop’ style environment that obviously met all modern food safety and accessibility standards. Its layout needed to showcase an eclectic mix of different (and often perishable) produce from a wide range of suppliers in an organised and attractive manner.
The Abbey Artisan Market features a deli counter, as well as simple shelving units punctuated by cart-style display stands. All made of wood, this creates a rustic, natural vibe in an otherwise minimalist environment that offers the refrigeration and spacious, well-lit accessibility of a modern supermarket. The simplicity of the shop's design and use of spotlights ensures that its stock takes centre stage—and we kept the same approach for the branding. The logo features a traditional serif font in black. And in keeping with the artisan nature of the business, beneath it, there are delicate hand-drawn sketches that show a glimpse of both the produce on sale, as well as the tools used to craft it.
